Young people are not only given the opportunity to develop their engineering skills but also, with the support of qualified staff, to provide information and guidance within all areas of personal and social development.
The Apprenticeship programme is designed to give learners a general hands-on experience in bench fitting, sheet metal, machining and welding. At the end of the programme they will achieve level 2 NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations, a nationally recognised qualification. Applicants would ideally have GCSE in Mathematics and English, but equally important are enthusiasm and commitment.
Our Entry to Employment programme is a pre-apprenticeship programme designed for those young people not ready to move onto an apprenticeship programme. Our intense support structure will cover vocational, basic skills and personal and social development.
During the programme learners will be given work taster opportunities in vocational areas of their choice. The programme is not time bound but we would expect most learners to move onto a modern apprenticeship programme within 20 weeks. Qualifications are not required for this programme but places are limited.

Activities and Events
At Horizon we believe in rewarding effort and celebrating achievement; for this reason we have `Learner of the Month` awards which recognises such things as good timekeeping & attendance, practical skills and rate of progress. The winners receive a certificate plus a gift voucher of their choice.
As part of the team building and bonding between staff and learners we usually have several lunchtime BBQs at our premises in Knowsley during the summer months.
Learner Successes
Horizon Training is currently one of the most successful training providers in Knowsley with more than 60% of our learners completing the apprenticeship framework and over 50% gaining full time employment.
There are lots of succes stories here in Knowsley of young men who have served an apprenticeship in engineering and now own very succesful companies. Many of our former apprentices also hold management positions with local engineering companies. Several former trainees with Horizon now employ our apprentices today.
